AMARNATH YATRA FROM BALTAL SRINAGAR (4N/5D)-Amarnath Yatra holds immense significance for Hindus around the world, as it takes devotees on a sacred quest to seek blessings from Lord Shiva himself. But this yatra is more than just a religious trek — it’s a story etched in time, filled with legends and miracles that have captivated believers for centuries. The story of Amarnath is steeped in mythical and spiritual significance. Legend has it that Lord Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and regeneration chose this remote cave nestled in the Himalayas to reveal the secret of immortality to his divine consort Parvati.
According to ancient scriptures, Lord Shiva decided to share this sacred knowledge with her only in a place where no mortal could eavesdrop or interrupt their conversation. Thus, he embarked on a journey from his heavenly abode in Kailash Parvat along with Parvati. On their way, they left behind various symbols of divinity at different locations. As they reached the Amarnath Cave, Lord Shiva performed several cosmic dances known as “tandav” before finally revealing the immortal secret to Parvati. It is said that a pair of pigeons witnessed this divine exchange and became immortal themselves.
The journey begins with a trek through picturesque landscapes with snow-capped peaks as your backdrop. As you make your way towards Amarnath Cave, there are several places that will leave you awe-inspired along the way.
One such place is Chandan Wari, located at an altitude of 9,500 feet. This scenic spot is known for its flowing streams and lush green meadows, offering a tranquil setting amidst nature’s bounty. Moving forward on your yatra, you will come across Pissu Top — a vantage point that provides panoramic views of snow-clad mountains and dense forests. The refreshing air coupled with breath-taking vistas makes it an ideal spot to catch your breath before continuing on your spiritual quest. Next up is Sheshnag — a beautiful mountain lake nestled amidst tall cliffs at an elevation of 11,730 feet. Legend has it that Lord Shiva left behind his snake-shaped earrings (nag) after letting go off all worldly possessions here. The azure waters reflecting the surrounding peaks create a mesmerizing sight that stays etched in one’s memory forever.
Further ahead lies Panchtarni — named so because five rivers converge at this spot: Krishna River originating from Gulmarg; Sind River from Dras; Yamuna River from Hanle; Vishnu Ganga River from Zojila Pass; and Saraswati River from Kargil.
